6 Days Kilimanjaro Climb via marangu Route
TOUR OVERVIEW
The 6-day Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most straightforward and only route on Mount Kilimanjaro that offers hut accommodations throughout the trek. It’s perfect for those seeking a shorter trek with a less demanding climb. Despite its relative ease, the route offers incredible scenery and an unforgettable adventure.
Tour Plan
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi for an overnight stay. In the evening, you'll have a briefing on the climb and time to prepare your gear for the upcoming adventure.
After breakfast, you will drive to Marangu Gate (1,870m / 6,135ft) and begin your trek through lush rainforests. After approximately 5-6 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720m / 8,923ft) for your first night on the mountain.
The journey continues from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m / 12,205ft), passing through the moorland zone, where you’ll see unique plant species and enjoy expansive views. This trek takes about 6-8 hours.
Today is an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut to adjust to the higher altitude. You can take a short hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000m / 13,123ft) or simply rest to better prepare for the higher elevations ahead.
After breakfast, you’ll continue your ascent to Kibo Hut (4,700m / 15,420ft). The trek takes 6-8 hours as you move through the alpine desert, with amazing views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks along the way.
At midnight, you’ll begin your final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit by sunrise is a truly unforgettable experience. After celebrating your achievement, you will descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.
On your final day, you’ll descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, where you'll receive a certificate of achievement before being transferred back to Moshi for the night.
