TOUR OVERVIEW

The Northern Circuit is the longest and one of the most scenic routes up Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a unique and less crowded experience, circling nearly the entire mountain before summiting from the east. The extended route allows for excellent acclimatization and a higher success rate. With 360-degree views and a chance to explore diverse landscapes, the Northern Circuit is ideal for adventurers seeking a more tranquil and rewarding Kilimanjaro experience.

Tour Plan

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, you will meet your guide for a detailed briefing about the climb.

After breakfast, drive to the Londorossi Gate for registration before proceeding to Lemosho Glades. The trek starts from here, entering lush rainforest and ending at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m / 9,022ft). This 3-4 hour trek provides a great introduction to the climb.

Today’s hike takes you from the rainforest into the moorlands. You’ll cross the Shira Plateau with views of Kibo and the expansive plains. After 5-6 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,500m / 11,483ft).

Continue across the plateau, with a relatively easy hike that allows you to further acclimatize. The route is filled with panoramic views, ending at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m / 12,631ft). This short 4-5 hour trek leaves you plenty of time to relax.

A challenging day as you climb up to the iconic Lava Tower (4,600m / 15,091ft) for acclimatization before descending to Moir Hut (4,200m / 13,780ft). The 6-7 hour trek offers a chance to adapt to the higher altitude in a stunning environment.

Begin your trek along the Northern Circuit route. Today’s journey takes you through alpine desert to Buffalo Camp (4,020m / 13,189ft). The 5-7 hour hike features awe-inspiring views of the Kenyan plains and the rugged northern side of Kilimanjaro.

Continue along the Northern Circuit, with gentle ascents and scenic trails leading to Third Cave Camp (3,870m / 12,697ft). This 5-7 hour trek allows for further acclimatization while traversing remote and quiet paths.

Today’s hike takes you up to School Hut (4,800m / 15,748ft), the final camp before your summit attempt. This 4-5 hour hike gives you time to rest and prepare for the strenuous summit push later that night.

You will begin your summit attempt around midnight. After a tough climb through the cold and darkness, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) at sunrise. After celebrating your achievement, you will descend to Millennium Camp (3,950m / 12,959ft), making this a long and challenging 12-15 hour day.

On your final day, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m / 5,380ft), where you will collect your summit certificate. From there, you’ll drive back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
